What I’m: Watching

I don’t watch too much in the way of television. I think I usually watch ten series (not full shows, series as in 10-24 episode blocks) a year. The main thing I watch, more so than film, is YouTube. This page mostly covers what YouTubers I’m watching and would recommend if someone asked.

Mic the Snare

My personal GOAT. The Quick Review Basheroos he used to do got me into so much music. If you’re new to Mic, I’d start by looking at the Deep Discog Dives he’s done, like this one for David Bowie or this one about the audio engineering of NPR Tiny Desk or how Mic went without streaming for a month.

Neil Cicierega

Yeah, Neil’s on here. I love Neil. My favourite Neil videos are his World Wide Web parody, his Guide to Lord of the Rings, his Beyond Belief parody. If I were to include his music I liked, we’d be here a while.

Smosh

My current ol' reliable. I mostly watch Smosh’s Reddit Stories and Games uploads. If you’re new to Smosh, the most accessible way in these days is via either a compilation or Smosh reads Reddit Stories. My recommendations are this gaming themed episode, this ‘oh so you’re evil?’ themed episode, this relationship drama themed one or this confessional one. Episodes with Ian, Damien, Arasha or Trevor on the sofa are usually my favourite as they tend to give the most measured and considered responses, although the Spencer and Amanda dynamic is fun to. (Note: external guest episodes tend to be hit or miss unless it’s Macdoesit or George Primavera.)

Smosh Games used to play a lot more video games but has since pivoted to having a boardgaming focus. If you like more improv-based games then Love Is Blind: The Board Game and Ultimate Werewolf. They also do a series called Don’t Win which I quite enjoy. I’d recommend this episode, Gentlemen’s Don’t Win Mario Party, an intersection of another series: Gentlemen’s.

Otherwise, I really enjoyed the experimental period on Smosh’s main channel during the mythical era, so I always recommend Let’s Do This! especially How to Cheat on Any Test and the Reunions, the Teletubbies one is the easiest to get into. Also, this Challenge Pit video where they have a minute to complete challenges is a recent classic to me.

I highly recommend a podcast Smosh cast member Angela Giarratana and former Smosh writer a, Patrick McDonald are a part of called Artists on Artists on Artists on Artists. If you have a Dropout subscription, you’ll dig it. The Look was my entry to this podcast, and I quote it so often. Fight in frame, girls. Fight in frame!
